OK, I know I have been here in a while. I am not for sure where the time went between Sept to December. I have spent the last few days reflecting on my creative works and where I want to go. (a few hours at Barnes and Noble will do that to you!!)
I want to re-connect with the extra step and let it take me on my new journey. The holidays were wonderful and we actually had snow in Dallas on Christmas eve which is so rare it has only happened 4 times in the past 100 years. Truly magical! This weekend my family is all recovering from the past few weeks enjoying the quietness and laziness of not having to be anywhere. I hope the holidays brings you peace and joy!

I have been so busy getting ready to do some Christmas Shows (I know its hard to believe). That I have been trying to go in to many directions at once! I am doing my first show in Ft. Worth "Christmas in Cowtown". I guess I will need to dust off my boots! These pictures were taken in Norway. I love the one of the little Village. I imagine myself living there and thinking about how life would be!!

I am always trying to teach my children that the little things in life are the best!!! Well, this weekend that had a different meaning?! She went to Fossil Rim (a wildlife park) with her Brownie troop. Victoria was on cloud nine since animals are her thing! When we picked her up that evening from her Brownie trip, she was all smiles jumping around with excitement wanting to tell all about her "day of adventure." After telling me about all the experiences she told us how lucky they were! She said " we were so LUCKY that we got to see a Zebra go to the restroom!!! Talking about appreciating the little things! Only in the eyes of a child!
P.S. My daughter is not a pink girl so I am very proud of this photo of her in pink! The one and only photo!

Lauren Hutton - Great Style

I just read a great article featuring Lauren Hutton in the October Issue of Oprah. How cool is she! Lauren was talking about her style. It was PJ pants in public, boat shoes, slouchy trousers, men's army pants, safari shirts and slinky dresses. "An awful lot of people with great style have no money whatsoever. They studied themselves and see what works." LH. I love that she is so natural and spirited. The Oprah article had great photos as well. Inspiring!! I think I will go put on some PJ pants and go out! LOL! Not quite sure about that one!

I have been working on wanting to redo my studio/office walls. How great is this combination mixed with artwork and great photos. I have a wall similar to this in black/white family photos in my breakfast room however I am loving the color combo. I think your home should tell the story of your life.

The dog dress

One of my favorite dresses when I was little was this dog dress! My mom kept it hoping someday I would have a daughter to pass it down to. The day had come to give it to Victoria to try on. It fits! I updated it by layering a stripe tee under neath it and putting black leggings with it. So cute!!! The dress had a belt that came with it that was like a rope/chain belt (almost like a dog leash). I might need to re-create the belt for her!!! I am back to posting this fall! Sorry for the absence!

There is a great children's store in Brooklyn New York. I have never been there but I do order offer there web site. One of my favorite finds is the books on children's rooms from all over the world. One of my favorite items to buy are old children's books. I have a whole library that not only do I read them to my children but I use them for visuals with my company. The illustrations are so whimsical and fun. I think you can create a whole children's display that will not only be fun but it can be done with such little investment. You can also do a framed section with various pages from the books. When I am working with one of my retail stores I also recommend using old children's books to set the hat stands on top of. You will create the hats to be at different levels that will lead to wonderful "eye candy".

Its that time of year when wiggy studio starts to produce and bring back the velvet hats. I love these hats for the fall! I have rec. so many great photos of babies and children wearing them for special portraits. The velvet page should be up anytime on the wiggy site and soon will be offered through little bambini.

I rarely go into a children's store anymore that really inspires me. I found one by accident the other night when I was at North Park. Its called "Peek aren't you curious." LOVE, their whole concept of apparel,visuals and merchandise. They also have a web site but it doesn't do them justice! However its still good. I would love to sell my product to them!!! The store experience is supposed in engage the parent as well as the child! Maybe I a can finally get Victoria to go shopping if I let her know they give away cool stuff like giant super balls,plastic dinosaurs and have huge jars of candy!!! Peek also has the most incredible selection of book!!

Every month our neighborhood has big trash pick up. That is where you dispose bags of grass,branches and other things that are to large for the trash container. For some reason people have started throwing out home type decor objects. My next door neighbors just moved out of their house after a divorce and I found a big box of silver pc. I was so excited. Then the other day I was coming down the road and saw these two large urns. Needless to say, I jumped out and threw them in my car!!!! "Someones throw aways have become my new treasures!!!"

Rainy Day in Dallas

It has been grey and rainy all day here in Dallas. It makes me want to crawl up in a nice and cozy bead and read a book or look at a favorite magazine!! No such luck!! I let Philip get a cheap vacuum cleaner from Goodwill today that has a hose to pick up little specks of dirt. He is going from room to room finding things to pick up. He will entertain himself for hours. The good thing is my floors will be spotless!!!

I love this time of year! My favorite Holiday would be Easter. This year I am making a list of things I would like to do before the time gets away from me.

Love making sugar cookies so I feel in love with these simple bunnies. I also think the nest with the eggs is pretty special. Both will be great to do with the kids! Happy Spring Time!!!

Here is a photo of our new dog Georgia. We said we would only have 2 dogs, but then we got Georgia. She is actually Victoria's dog and responsibility. So far so good. We also have Mia a one year old Westie-poo and Maria the eleven plus year old Yorkie/??????/mutt mix. It has been fun watching the dynamics between the three. Mia and Georgia are the "mighty duo" while Maria just sits back and relaxes! OK now we are to the limit on pets!! I almost forgot we also have Lucy the cat. All our pets are female and Philip keeps saying he wants a boy dog, but in my head I will keep repeating "no more pets".

Last year we went on a trip and one of my favorite places we visited was Madang,Papua New Guinea. I always try to buy a piece of art from places I like. This place was "eye candy" for me!

All the locals were set up selling their art and handmade goods. I found some great art and it felt so good to support the people. Its was so primitive but the people were so gracious and happy!!!! I am trying to decide how to frame what I bought. Every piece I bought from this one artist has a great story behind it. There are so many tribes in Papua that most of the art reflects that. The one painting that looks like a school bus has a faces from all the tribes. I also bought the one with the man standing and holding tablets and the large tribal face. The tablets represents the 10 commandments. What a nice surprise that was.:) All the colors in the paintings are very vivid! I will never forget my visit to this magical place. There is a great deal to be said about the people of Madang!

We had a art day yesterday. I love the style they each have right now. Philip(4) draws these comic like monster/people type characters (which I think is his best version of a person) which I adore, and Victoria(6) is always so detailed and colorful in her art. I am trying to get three pictures from both of them this week. I want to frame the paintings for some new art to hang.

It being the first non-school day of spring break I thought I would let my kids have a free day at home. But now I am thinking there was a little to much free in the day!. Victoria comes in my office/studio late afternoon sporting a new hair cut!!! I always thought she would be really cute with super short bangs but never the "bangs cut to the hairline look!" She does remind me now of the little girls we saw in Norway with their bobs and really short bangs. Maybe Victoria will start a new trend. Just the day before a friend of mine that owns No Slippy Hair Clippy gave me about 30 bows,various sizes and colors. Maybe in the back of Victoria's mind she was not seeing these in her hair anytime soon!!!

One thing I will miss most about not getting Domino magazine is seeing the homes with great style but comfortable at the same time. I love the fact the home is your backdrop,setting and the springboard for your life. I love the gallery wall I just did in my front room. Its a mixture of a treasured painting my husband found in Paris, a painting form a artist friend, a couple of great art I found at the New York flea market, a favorite mirror from my design legacy days, and a few other treasures. I love you can mix so many styles and they all seem to come together as a wonderful story!! Here is a photo of my latest gallery wall.

Yes today is the first day to blog. It seems the expectations are high on your first blog. So lets just say my "extra step" today is starting my blog.
